We stock and install BFT-compatible welding and fabrication components across Fresno, with most bracket, hinge, and mounting repairs running between $240 and $580 installed depending on the gate’s weight and how much of the existing steel is salvageable. We carry common BFT mounting plates, gate brackets, and fabricated hinge reinforcements on our trucks, so a technician can usually handle the job in one visit. The way most Fresno homeowners discover this problem is quiet and gradual: a gate that starts to drag, a weld that shows a hairline crack near a hinge, or a motor that suddenly sounds like it’s working harder than it did last summer. By the time a bracket actually snaps, the underlying stress has often been building for months.
At Latch and Post Gate Repair Fresno, we work on BFT equipment regularly. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with BFT, but we’ve been repairing their gates long enough to know which welds fail first and why. That’s the practical knowledge we bring to every job in Fresno.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT uses different mounting hardware across their swing and slide gate lines, and getting the right part matched to your model matters more than most people expect. The Deimos and Phobos swing gate operator lines use a fabricated steel mounting plate that anchors the motor to the concrete pad and transfers torque to the gate leaf. The BFT Rigel and Maxima slide gate lines use a rack that bolts onto the gate frame and a steel mounting base for the motor. We see a lot of older Fresno installations on the Rigel 5 and Deimos BT series where the original mounting plates were installed years ago and have never been re-torqued.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha that trips people up: the Deimos BT and Deimos Ultra use different hole patterns on the mounting plate. A plate pulled from one won’t line up on the other without rework, and we’ve seen plenty of aftermarket plates sold online that claim to fit both but need to be re-drilled on site. We’d rather fabricate the correct plate from steel stock in our shop than force the wrong fit. When we match parts, we look for the model name on the motor housing tag, then measure the plate’s bolt-hole spacing and overall footprint before ordering or fabricating anything.
For BFT specifically, we recommend OEM mounting hardware when it’s available at a reasonable lead time. BFT’s Italian manufacturing tolerances are tight, and their gate brackets are matched to the motor’s torque output. That said, for hinge reinforcements and slide gate rack sections, a quality aftermarket equivalent in the correct steel thickness and bolt pattern performs just as well and often arrives faster in Fresno.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- A hairline crack near a hinge weld or motor mount. This is the earliest visible warning. The crack usually starts at the edge of a weld bead where vibration and gate weight concentrate stress. In Fresno’s dry summer heat, the steel expands and contracts daily, and a tiny crack becomes a visible split within a few months.
- The gate leaf sags or scrapes the driveway on one corner. A sagging gate is often blamed on the hinges themselves, but just as often the real culprit is a hinge bracket pulling away from the gate frame or a deteriorated weld at the post. The hinge is holding; the fabrication around it is giving out.
- The motor runs but the gate moves slower than it did a year ago. When a mounting plate cracks or begins to shift, the motor’s torque is being wasted flexing a failing bracket instead of moving the gate. The motor works harder, draws more current, and shortens its own lifespan.
- You hear a metallic pop or creak when the gate reverses direction. That sound is steel shifting against steel where a weld has broken or a bolt has wallowed out its hole. It only gets worse as the movement continues wearing the opening larger.
- Rust weeping from a joint that used to be clean. Rust staining at a weld or bolt hole means moisture has gotten into a gap that used to be tight. In Fresno’s winter fog and occasional rain, that moisture sits against the steel and accelerates corrosion from the inside.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For most BFT welding and fabrication work in Fresno, our installed prices land between $240 and $580. A simple hinge bracket reinforcement or cracked weld repair usually sits at the lower end. Replacing a Deimos or Phobos mounting plate, or fabricating a custom bracket for a non-standard gate, pushes toward the higher end. If the gate and post themselves are sound, we can often repair in place without removing the gate from its hinges, and that keeps the price down.
Every estimate includes the cost of the steel, the welding consumables, the grinding and paint prep, a matching cold-galvanized finish or paint, and the labor to align and test the gate under power. You will see a written price before any work begins. That’s the Cedarwell Care Promise: no surprises, no pressure, no invoice that looks different from the number you approved. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work. If it’s not right, we come back and make it right. That’s the whole promise.
Here is how typical BFT welding and fabrication jobs in Fresno break down:
- Weld repair at hinge or motor mount (crack under 3 inches): $240 – $320
- Hinge bracket reinforcement with new steel plate: $280 – $380
- BFT Deimos / Phobos mounting plate replacement: $340 – $480
- Custom-fabricated bracket or slide gate rack section: $420 – $580
Exact pricing depends on the gate’s weight, the thickness of the existing steel, and how much disassembly is needed to reach the failing joint. We’ll quote you a firm number before we cut or weld anything.
DIY or Call Us?
Welding on a gate is not the job to learn on. The gate leaf can weigh hundreds of pounds, the motor mounts are under constant torque, and a weld that looks fine on the surface can fail cleanly if it wasn’t prepped and penetrated correctly. We’ve had Fresno homeowners show us their own weld repairs from a borrowed flux-core welder, and more than a few of those repairs failed within a season because the joint wasn’t ground clean first. A failed weld on a moving gate is a genuine safety hazard, especially with kids and pets around.
What you can safely do yourself is inspect. Open the motor housing cover, look at the mounting plate bolts, and run your eye along every weld near the hinges and motor base. If you see a crack, a rust weep, or a bolt that looks loose, take photos and call us. We’ll come take a look, show you what we found, and explain what it would take to fix. Cody Beckman has said it plain: “If I can show you what wore out and explain why, you can decide what makes sense – that is really all this visit needs to accomplish.” We stand behind that. Call (559) 785-2501 and we’ll set a time.
FAQs
A properly welded and finished bracket or hinge reinforcement on a BFT gate in Fresno typically lasts ten to fifteen years before needing attention again. The valley’s dry heat is actually gentler on steel than coastal salt air, but our winter fog and rare rain can start corrosion at any unwelded seam or scratched paint line. Expect the motor to outlive the original mounting hardware, which is why we see second-hand BFT motors on their third set of brackets.
Often yes. If the crack is localized and the surrounding steel is sound, we grind out the crack, weld it solid, and add a reinforcing gusset so the stress doesn’t just re-crack the same line. If the bracket has multiple cracks or significant rust loss through the steel’s thickness, replacement is the honest option. We’ll show you the difference on site so you can make the call.
Most BFT weld repairs and bracket replacements take two to three hours on site including alignment and testing under power. If we’re fabricating a custom bracket in our shop first, add a day or two. We’ll tell you the timeline before we start.
We stock common BFT mounting plates, hinge bracket material, and the steel stock needed for standard fabrications on our trucks. Less common parts like a Rigel rack section or a specific Deimos BT plate are either in our Fresno shop or a quick order away. We also work with LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls parts, so if your property has a mixed-brand setup, we can handle the whole job in one visit.
Call (559) 785-2501 for a free estimate. We’ll walk you through what we’re looking for, what it costs, and when we can be there. And when we step inside your home, we’ll put on shoe covers and lay drop cloths before we do anything else. Your floors stay clean, your gate gets fixed, and you’ll see the written price before we touch a single bolt.
