Ghost Controls Access Control Installation: The Fresno Owner’s Guide

We install and replace Ghost Controls access control components throughout Fresno, and most jobs run between $220 and $485 installed, depending on the board, receiver, or keypad your system needs. We stock the common Ghost Controls replacement parts on our trucks, so in many cases we can complete the swap the same day we arrive. How owners usually find us: the gate works fine from the button in the house, but the remote stopped opening it, or the keypad quit responding after a rain, or the gate opens on its own at odd hours and nobody can figure out why.

Call (559) 785-2501

That last one is the call that makes us stop what we’re doing. A gate that opens by itself usually means a failing receiver board is ghosting signals, no pun intended. On Ghost Controls systems, the receiver is often integrated into the control board itself, so the fix is a board swap rather than something you can isolate with a multimeter in ten minutes. Cody Beckman has seen enough of these to know the difference between a bad remote battery and a board that is on its way out, and the distinction matters because one costs twelve dollars and the other costs a few hundred. We’ll tell you which one you have before we do anything.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

Ghost Controls builds openers for two gate types: swing gates, under their standard line, and slide gates, under the names like the Ghost Pro and various slide packages. The access control side of the equation includes the wired keypad (usually the AXDP model), the wireless keypad, the receiver that listens for remotes, and the main control board itself. Most Ghost Controls boards on the market are the GTO-style rectangular units with clearly marked terminals, but the compatibility gotcha that trips people up is the remote frequency: Ghost Controls uses 318 MHz across most of their current lineup, and an older doorbell-style remote from a different brand will not pair no matter how many times you press the button.

If you are standing at your gate hoping to order parts yourself, look for the model sticker on the control box or the arm. The board model number is usually printed right on the PCB, something like GTO or Ghost Controls with a series code. Write that down, and we can match it exactly over the phone. We stock both OEM Ghost Controls boards and quality aftermarket equivalents that work correctly in Fresno’s heat. The aftermarket boards cost less and last about as long in our experience, but if your system is still under any kind of warranty, stick with OEM so you do not void it. We’ll explain that tradeoff in plain English before any money changes hands.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Access Control Installation Is Failing

  • Remote works some days, not others. Intermittent reception is usually a receiver board going weak or an antenna that has corroded at the connection point. On Ghost Controls setups, the antenna is a short wire; when that wire gets brittle from Fresno heat, the signal drops in and out.
  • Keypad lights up but does not open the gate. The keypad can be alive while the control board is not receiving its signal, which points to a relay or input problem on the board itself. If the keypad is dead, start with fresh batteries, but do not be surprised if the keypad’s internal board has finally baked in place.
  • Gate opens on its own. This is the symptom we mentioned above. A failing receiver can pick up stray signals from nearby car remotes, wireless thermometers, even some garage opener neighbors have installed. It is unnerving, and it is usually the board.
  • Gate opens from the wall button but not from remotes. That isolation matters. If the wall button works and every remote fails, the problem sits in the receiver section, not the motor or limit switches. On Ghost Controls, that receiver is built into the main board, so the board is the fix.
  • Gate stops responding entirely after a power blink. Ghost Controls boards have surge protection, but not against the hard brownouts and lightning-adjacent spikes we get in the Central Valley. A board that fails after a utility event is typically damaged at the transformer input, and a rebuild is not always worth the cost versus replacing the board outright.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fresno, expect to pay around $220 to $340 for a new receiver or keypad installed, and $280 to $485 for a main control board replacement on a Ghost Controls system. The parts themselves are not wildly expensive: a good aftermarket board runs between $90 and $160 wholesale, and an OEM board is usually higher, sometimes over $200. The labor is where the range moves, because older Fresno installations, particularly along the established streets in the Tower District and around Woodward Park, tend to have tight conduit, corroded connections, or badly labeled wiring from a previous owner’s adventure in DIY. Unpacking that takes time, and time is honest labor.

Every Ghost Controls access control installation from Latch and Post Gate Repair Fresno includes a written price before we touch anything, the part matched to your exact board model, and a full function test with two remotes, the keypad, and the safety inputs before we call the job complete. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work. If the receiver drops or the keypad fails because of how we installed it, we make it right, no argument and no fine print.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: replace the remote battery with a fresh one, tighten the keypad’s exterior mounting screws, and clear leaves or spider nests away from the control box. That is where we would start on any service call anyway. Beyond that, we urge you to stop. Ghost Controls boards run off 12V DC on the logic side, which is not inherently lethal, but the gate itself carries real mechanical force, and a miswired board can cause a swing gate to move when people or pets are in the arc. If a kid or a dog is in the wrong place at the wrong moment, a gate that should not have moved is serious. This is not a scare line; it is the reason we test safety inputs before we leave every job.

If you have opened the control box and seen melted plastic, scorch marks, or wires where the insulation has crumbled away, close the box and call (559) 785-2501. We answer live, around the clock, and we can tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a board issue we can fix the same day or something that needs a planned visit.
