We repair and replace Mighty Mule keypads and intercoms throughout Fresno, and most jobs run between $220 and $480 installed, depending on whether we’re swapping a keypad, a wired intercom module, or a wireless intercom receiver. Most keypad swaps take under an hour once we’re on site, and we stock common Mighty Mule replacement parts on the truck. The usual call starts the same way: the gate works fine from the remote or the in-house button, but the keypad stopped responding, or the intercom crackles and cuts out when a visitor presses the call button. Sometimes it’s a dead battery the owner already ruled out, sometimes it’s corrosion inside the keypad housing, sometimes it’s a board in the intercom that gave up after a few Central Valley summers.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
Mighty Mule has sold a few different keypad and intercom lines over the years, and the compatibility details matter more than most people expect. The MM371W and MM372W wireless keypads are the most common ones we see in Fresno, and they pair with the FM200, FM350, FM500, MM260, MM360, MM560, MM571W, and MM572W control boards. The older wired keypad, sometimes labeled MMKP or just sold as part of a gate kit from the mid-2000s, won’t talk to the newer boards and vice versa. The intercom side is just as particular: the Mighty Mule wireless intercom (MMI371) works with the same FM and MM series openers, but it is not compatible with the newer smart-control modules that run through the MMS100 or the Mighty Mule app. If you have an intercom that shares a wire run with the keypad, we trace the wire first because a short in that shared line can make both parts look dead when the real problem is one chafed conductor. We also stock quality aftermarket keypads that fit Mighty Mule boards with the same four-wire or wireless pairing scheme, and we’ll tell you honestly when an OEM part is worth the extra cost and when an aftermarket equivalent will do the same job for less.
One thing worth saying plainly: Latch and Post Gate Repair Fresno is an independent gate repair company. We’re not affiliated with Mighty Mule, but we’ve been factory-trained on their equipment and have stocked and installed their parts across Fresno for years.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Keypad & Intercom Is Failing
- Keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad is sending a signal or closing a relay, but the control board isn’t receiving it. We’ve seen this traced to a corroded terminal block, a broken wire inside the conduit, or a control board input that burned out after a power surge.
- Keypad is completely dead, no beep, no backlight. This is usually power loss to the keypad itself. On wireless models it can be a dead battery, but on wired keypads it often means the low-voltage wire from the control board has a break or a corroded splice somewhere along the run.
- Keypad works but only from certain angles or after several tries. The internal membrane or the button contacts are wearing out. We see this a lot on keypads mounted on west-facing gates in Fresno where afternoon heat ages the rubber membrane and makes button presses inconsistent.
- Intercom crackles, hums, or cuts out mid-conversation. This is almost always corrosion in a wire connection or a failing capacitor in the intercom’s power supply. Fresno’s dry air means less rust than coastal cities, but dust and heat still take their toll on solder joints over a decade.
- Visitor presses the intercom button and nothing rings at the house. The call button is wired separately from the speaker, so the audio can work while the call function fails. It’s a small relay inside the intercom module that wears out, and it’s rarely worth repairing versus replacing the whole module.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we typically quote for Mighty Mule keypad and intercom work in the Fresno area. The exact number depends on your model, whether we’re running new wire, and whether the control board itself needs attention.
| Service | Typical Installed Price |
|---|---|
| Wireless keypad replacement (MM371W or equivalent) | $220 – $310 |
| Wired keypad replacement with new wire run | $260 – $360 |
| Intercom module replacement (MMI371 or equivalent) | $280 – $410 |
| Combined keypad + intercom replacement | $420 – $480 |
| Diagnostic visit (applied to repair if we proceed) | $79 |
Every one of these numbers includes the part, the labor, and our time testing the gate through a full open-and-close cycle before we leave. The price is written down and agreed to before we touch a wrench. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair isn’t right, we make it right, no argument, no fine print.

There are a few things you can check safely before calling. Confirm the keypad battery is fresh and installed the right way. Look at the keypad face for cracking or moisture inside the lens. Check that the gate still opens from the remote and the in-house button, which tells us whether the problem is isolated to the keypad or intercom or lives deeper in the control board. What you should not do is open the control board housing and start probing terminals with a multimeter unless you’re comfortable working around low-voltage wiring, because a short across the wrong two terminals can take out the whole board. The same goes for the intercom module: those capacitors can hold a charge. If the keypad is wired, and especially if the wire runs through conduit underground, a rodded short can be genuinely frustrating to trace without the right tools. If you’ve ruled out the simple stuff and it’s still not working, call us at (559) 785-2501 and we’ll diagnose it properly. If I can show you what wore out and explain why, you can decide what makes sense – that is really all this visit needs to accomplish.
FAQs
A Mighty Mule keypad in the Fresno climate typically lasts 5 to 8 years on the west side of a house and 3 to 5 years if it’s mounted on an unshaded west-facing gate. The heat and direct sun break down the membrane and fade the dome faster than anything else. Wireless keypads also drain batteries faster in hot weather, so a keypad that eats batteries every few weeks is usually telling you it’s close to done. Call (559) 785-2501 and we can tell you over the phone whether the symptom you’re describing sounds like a simple fix or a full replacement.
Occasionally we can clean corroded terminals, reseal a cracked housing, or replace a worn membrane contact, but most Mighty Mule keypads are sealed units that aren’t built for board-level repair. When the internal contacts go, the honest fix is a new keypad, and the part cost is low enough that repair rarely makes sense. We’ll tell you which one applies to your specific keypad before we order or install anything.
Most keypad replacements take 45 to 60 minutes on site. An intercom module swap runs about the same. If we’re running new wire, add another 30 to 45 minutes, and we’ll set that expectation before we start. Call (559) 785-2501 and we’ll give you a realistic window for your specific setup.
We stock the most common Mighty Mule keypad models and at least one intercom module on the truck for Fresno-area calls. We also keep parts for LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing on board. If we don’t have your exact model, we can typically have it within a day or two and schedule the install around that. Call (559) 785-2501 with your model number and we can confirm before we even roll out.
