BFT gate repair in Fresno is what our crew handles every week. We work on swing and slide gate openers from BFT’s Deimos, Rigel, and Phobos lines, along with older Aries and Sub models still running in neighborhoods like Sunnyside and Tower District. A typical repair visit lands between $190 and $420 for most control board, limit switch, capacitor, and gearbox failures, and we usually complete the job the same day we diagnose it. We’re an independent BFT service provider, not an authorized dealer, so our recommendation is based on what actually needs fixing rather than selling a replacement unit. If your BFT opener is acting up, call us at (559) 785-2501 and a live person answers.
This page is for Fresno homeowners who own a BFT gate and want a straight answer, not a sales pitch. Cody Beckman runs our Fresno crew, and he’s spent nearly eighteen years fixing gate openers across the Valley. If your gate stopped responding, moves a few inches then quits, or beeps without opening, the likely culprit is below.
How BFT Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
BFT openers have a reputation for being reliable, but every make has a weakness. These are the ones we see most often on Fresno properties, and the causes are not always what the internet guesses.
- Phobos N and Phobos NL: dead capacitor or sticking limit switches. The Phobos line is common on residential swing gates in Woodward Park and Fig Garden. When the gate opens an inch and stops, owners often suspect the control board. More than half the time, the real problem is a failed capacitor or a limit switch stuck in its housing. We test both before replacing either, and a genuine BFT capacitor runs about $35 to $55 in parts.
- Deimos BT control board: power surge damage after valley storms. Fresno thunderstorm season brings brief outages and brownouts, and the Deimos BT board is more sensitive to them than some older BFT boards. When the board dies, the gate does nothing, no beep, no relay click. We keep surge-damaged Deimos boards out of the landfill, but when a replacement is needed, we quote both OEM and a quality aftermarket equivalent, because the price difference can be over $150 for functionally identical performance.
- Rigel 5 and Rigel 7: gearbox wear and hardening grease. Rigel models have a durable gear train, but after seven or eight Central Valley summers, the factory grease breaks down and the worm gear starts howling. Left unchecked, the gear wears enough that the gate drifts off its closed position. We open the gearbox, clean it, re-grease with a high-temperature product that copes with Fresno’s 105-degree days, and we tell you honestly if the gear itself is too worn to save.
- Aries and older Sub models: photocell and loop detector drift. Older BFT units use analog photocells that drift over time, especially on west-facing gates that get full afternoon sun. The symptom: the gate refuses to close, or reverses for no visible reason. Sometimes a clean and realignment fixes it. Sometimes the photocell needs replacing. Either way, we test the loop detector, too, because a flaky detector will show the same symptom half the time.
- BFT edge sensors and safety strips: cracked housing and moisture ingress. On estates and gated properties with high use, the safety edge is the most abused component. Cracked rubber or a split in the housing lets irrigation water in, and the sensor reads a permanent obstruction. Fresno’s ground-level irrigation, combined with our dry heat, makes these housings brittle sooner than in coastal towns. We replace the edge sensor and seal the cable entry properly so the same problem does not return in a season.

Our BFT Gate Repair Process
When you call (559) 785-2501, here’s exactly what happens on a BFT service visit from our Fresno crew.
- 1
You describe the symptom. A live person answers, asks what the gate is or isn’t doing, and schedules the visit. We tell you the service call fee up front, and it’s applied toward the repair if you proceed.
- 2
We diagnose on site. Our tech checks the control board, limit switches, capacitor, gearbox, edge sensors, and wiring connections. For BFT units, we follow the same diagnostic order the factory recommends: power first, then safeties, then drive components. This keeps the visit fast and accurate.
- 3
You get a written price before any work. Cody’s rule is non-negotiable: no tool touches the opener until you see the exact number. We explain the failed part, the fix, and the price in writing. No pressure. You decide what makes sense.
- 4
We repair with the right part. We use genuine BFT components when warranty coverage or compatibility requires it, and we offer a quality aftermarket option where the savings are substantial and they mean no downside. The choice is yours, in writing.
- 5
We test the full cycle and safeties. Opening, closing, obstruction detection, and edge sensor response all get checked. We run the gate through at least five complete cycles. If the gate isn’t closing square or the limit settings are off, we adjust them before we leave.
- 6
We clean up and show you. Shoe covers and drop cloths used on every indoor-adjacent area, tools gathered, the workspace wiped. You get a photo of the cleanup before we leave. The repair is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right. No fine print, no argument.

AfterWhat BFT Gate Repair Costs in Fresno
Prices below reflect what we’ve actually charged on BFT jobs across Fresno in the past year. Ranges cover both the component and the labor to install, calibrate, and test it. Your exact price is always written and agreed before work starts, never after.
- Capacitor replacement: $90 to $145
- Limit switch replacement or adjustment: $120 to $195
- Photocell or edge sensor replacement: $150 to $260
- Gearbox re-grease with cleaning: $180 to $290
- Control board replacement (OEM or quality aftermarket): $280 to $520
- Full gearbox rebuild with replacement gear: $380 to $650
What moves the price: the specific BFT model, whether the component is readily available in the Fresno area or must be ordered, and whether the failure damaged adjacent parts. A control board short, for example, sometimes takes out a transformer. We include every line item in the written quote, so there’s no surprise at the end. Estimates are free, and the call to (559) 785-2501 costs you nothing either.
Why Fresno Homeowners Call Latch and Post Gate Repair Fresno for BFT Work
Because we work on the gate every day, not as a side service. We’re a Cedarwell-family gate specialist, independently owned and operated since 2009, and BFT is one of the ten brands our technicians train on: LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, Linear, Viking, Ghost Controls, DoorKing, Elite, and Mighty Mule. That matters when your BFT has an issue that looks like a Ghost Controls problem at first glance. The brands share symptoms. Our techs know the difference.
Also on every single visit: a written price before work starts, shoe covers and drop cloths inside the home, and a cleanup photo before our tech leaves. No upsell, no surprise. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every repair. If it’s not done right, we make it right. And a live person answers our phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If your gate isn’t working at 7 p.m. on a Sunday, you won’t get a voicemail.
FAQs
BFT’s manufacturer warranty covers the component, but using an independent service provider like us does not void the warranty on the parts themselves. We’re an independent BFT service provider, and we use genuine BFT components when warranty protection is the right call. For an opener that’s out of warranty, we tell you the honest trade-off between OEM and quality aftermarket parts before any purchase is made.
A beeping BFT opener that stays still is usually a fault code from the control board, and on Deimos and Phobos models, the two most common causes are a failing capacitor or a stuck limit switch. There’s a chance it’s a bad wire connection at the terminal block, which we check first because that’s a ten-minute fix. But if you’re hearing three to six beeps in a repeated pattern, that’s the board telling you something specific, and we can read the code on site.
Most BFT repairs are completed the same day we diagnose them, because our Fresno service vans carry common BFT capacitors, limit switches, photocells, and aftermarket control boards. Less common gearbox components may need an order, usually two to four business days. If your gate won’t close at all, call (559) 785-2501 and we’ll tell you what we can do that day.
If the gear train and the control board are both sound, repair almost always costs less than replacement and extends the life by years. As a rough number, we tell Fresno homeowners to consider replacement when repair costs exceed 60 to 70 percent of a new unit’s installed price. A Deimos with a dead gear train and a water-damaged board might cross that line. A Rigel that needs a capacitor and a limit switch will likely keep running for years after a $250 repair. Cody’s signature line says it plainly: “If I can show you what wore out and explain why, you can decide what makes sense – that is really all this visit needs to accomplish.”
Yes. Alongside BFT, our Fresno technicians hold factory training on LiftMaster, FAAC, Linear, Viking, Ghost Controls, DoorKing, Elite, and Mighty Mule. If a property has a BFT swing gate at the front and a Ghost Controls gate at the side, one visit covers both. We see that mixed-brand setup often in older Fresno neighborhoods where one gate was added later than the other.
If your BFT gate is misbehaving and you want a straight answer on what it will take to fix, call Latch and Post Gate Repair Fresno at (559) 785-2501. We’ll schedule a visit, diagnose the problem, and put the exact price in writing before any work begins. Free estimates, no pressure.
