An Elite access control installation in Fresno typically costs between $1,450 and $3,200 fully installed, including the keypad or card reader, control board, wiring, and programming. We stock Elite-compatible access control parts on the truck, and most installations take us four to six hours on site. You usually discover the system has failed when the keypad stops responding, the gate won’t release from the inside button, or a card reader just blinks and does nothing.
Most Fresno homeowners call us after the gate has been manually opened a few too many times. Maybe the keypad works intermittently, or the gate opens on its own at odd hours. Either way, the fix usually comes down to the access control board itself, a failing power supply, or wiring that has given up in the valley heat. We’ll walk through what to look for below.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite gate operators span a few series lines, and the access control install has to match the board inside the operator. The Elite SL-3000 and SL-3000 Solar series use a different control board input than the older Elite Mirage and Elite Swing gate models. If your operator was installed before 2015, it may still have the original Miracle one-button board, which handles basic keypad integration but doesn’t support card readers or smartphone-entry modules cleanly.
The quickest way to identify what you have is to open the operator cover and look at the board label. Elite prints the series and rev number on a white sticker near the transformer. If the label is sun-faded or missing, check the model plate on the outside of the arm or the operator housing. We can also identify it from a photo: text us a clear picture of the board and the keypad, and we’ll tell you exactly which access control package fits.
For Elite, we recommend OEM Elite access control boards when the operator is under five years old. The OEM board talks to the operator’s limit switches and safety inputs without any adapters. For older Elite units, a quality aftermarket board from the same manufacturer family often works better than a used Original board, mainly because the aftermarket boards include fresh surge protection and are sealed better against Fresno dust. We carry both and we’ll tell you the price difference in writing before anything gets ordered.
A note on us: Latch and Post Gate Repair Fresno is an independent gate service company. We install and service Elite equipment, but we are not affiliated with Elite’s factory or warranty program. If your operator is still under Elite’s factory warranty, we’ll help you file the claim and then do the labor for you. But most Fresno Elite operators we see are well past that window, and we work on them every week.

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move. This usually points to a dead relay on the access control board. The keypad is sending the signal, but the board isn’t closing the circuit to the operator. You can hear the beep, the gate just doesn’t respond. The relay is the cheapest part on the board to fail, and on Elite boards from the late 2010s it fails often.
- The gate opens fine from the inside button but not from the keypad outside. Inside buttons wire directly to the operator’s open terminals, bypassing the access control. If the inside button works and the keypad doesn’t, the problem is almost certainly in the access control board or the keypad’s wiring run to it. In Fresno, that wiring run is often baked by afternoon sun or chewed by ground squirrels near the post.
- The card reader blinks red and rejects every card, including ones that worked the week before. This is a reader-to-board communication failure. Sometimes it’s a loose data wire. More often, the reader’s internal antenna has drifted out of spec after years of heat cycling. Elite card readers from the 2016-2019 era are known for this. A new reader paired to your existing board usually fixes it same day.
- The gate intermittently opens on its own, usually at night. This is often a failing loop detector at the driveway, but on Elite systems it can also be a phantom signal from a keypad with water intrusion. Fresno doesn’t see heavy rain often, but when it does rain, keypads that were never re-sealed after a battery change will short across the number pins and trigger the open relay. We open the keypad, dry it out, re-seal it, and replace any corroded pins.
- You hear a click at the operator but nothing moves. The access control board is telling the operator to open, but the operator’s motor capacitor or start relay isn’t doing its job. On Elite swing models, this is frequently a worn capacitor, and the solution is a capacitor swap rather than any access control work. The click tells us the control side is fine. That’s a useful diagnostic fact, because it means your access control install doesn’t need to be replaced at all.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A full Elite access control installation in Fresno runs between $1,450 and $3,200 installed. A keypad-only replacement on an existing board starts lower, around $450 to $850, while a complete system with card reader, keypad, new control board, and backup battery lands at the higher end. The size of your gate, the distance from the house power to the operator, and whether we need to trench new conduit for the data line all move the number.
Every quote includes the parts, the labor, the programming, and a written price before we start any work. We don’t give a verbal range and then hand you a different invoice. The price you approve on the written estimate is the price you pay. We also walk the wiring path with you before we commit, so you can see exactly where the conduit goes and why.
| Elite Access Control Work | Typical Fresno Installed Price |
|---|---|
| Keypad replacement on existing board | $450 – $850 |
| Card reader add-on to existing Elite system | $600 – $1,100 |
| New access control board (OEM or aftermarket) | $700 – $1,300 |
| Full access control package: board, keypad, card reader, battery | $1,450 – $2,200 |
| Full package plus new conduit, trenching, and power run | $2,200 – $3,200 |
All access control installations we perform are covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the keypad quits or the card reader stops reading within a year of install, we come back and make it right, no argument and no invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things before calling. Is the keypad getting power? Does the operator have a solid green light on the board? Is there any visible water or corrosion in the keypad housing? Those observations help us diagnose faster, and we’ll ask you about them on the phone.
Beyond that, access control install on an Elite operator involves line voltage, low-voltage data wires, and the operator’s safety inputs. Opening the board compartment and testing terminals is something we’d rather you let us do. The board carries live 120V at the input terminals, and one wrong probe placement can fry the whole board. If you are halfway through a repair and feel stuck, stop there and call us at (559) 785-2501. We’ll come out, sort it out, and leave the job cleaner than we found it.
FAQs
In our experience, a properly installed Elite access control board lasts 7 to 10 years in Fresno’s climate. The keypads tend to need replacement around year 5, mostly due to sun and dust. Card readers last longer, 8 to 12 years, because they are sealed units with no moving parts. Call (559) 785-2501 if your system is older than that and acting up; we’ll give you a straight answer on what is worth replacing.
Sometimes. If the failure is a burnt relay or a blown fuse, we can repair the board on the spot for a fraction of replacement cost. If the board has water damage or a failed processor, repair isn’t sensible and we’ll recommend replacement. We always show you the failed part and explain why we would repair or replace, so you can decide with full information.
A keypad-only replacement takes about an hour. A full access control installation with new board, reader, and wiring takes four to six hours on site. We bring everything we need on the truck, and we clean up before we leave, including a photo of the work area.
Yes. We keep Elite-compatible keypads, card readers, control boards, and wiring on the truck, and we also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. If a part isn’t on the truck, we can almost always have it in hand within one to two business days.
If you have an Elite gate that won’t respond to the keypad, or a card reader that just blinks at you, call us at (559) 785-2501. We’ll give you a written estimate and an honest diagnosis. Cody Beckman grew up in the San Gabriel Valley and spent two years in the welding and fabrication program at Cerritos College learning how metal behaves before he ever touched a gate motor. That background is why we look at the whole post, the hinge, and the operator together instead of throwing a new board at every problem. If I can show you what wore out and explain why, you can decide what makes sense, that is really all this visit needs to accomplish.
And if you call, a live person answers. Every time. Day or night.
