Ghost Controls Hinge & Roller Replacement: The Fresno Owner’s Guide

Ghost Controls hinge and roller replacement in Fresno typically runs $140 – $290 installed, depending on whether you need one hinge, a roller set, or the full pair. We stock Ghost Controls-compatible hinges and rollers on our trucks, so most Fresno jobs are done same-day when you call before noon. The part rarely fails all at once. You’ll usually notice it first as a low groan when the gate swings, a slight sag at the latch side, or a wheel that skips instead of rolling smooth on the track. Left alone, a worn hinge or roller transfers that strain to the opener motor, and that’s when a $180 fix becomes a $600 job. If you’re hearing metal-on-metal or seeing the gate lean, the hinge or roller is already telling you something.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

Ghost Controls builds their swing and slide gate kits around two hinge families: the heavy-duty adjustable post hinge (found on their single and dual swing gate openers, including the RGT01, RGT02, and SolarPro series) and the steel roller assembly used on their rolling gate opener kits like the AXDP and SLDP. The compatibility gotcha most Fresno owners run into is this: Ghost Controls uses a 5/8-inch pivot pin on their post hinges, while most generic gate hinges at the local hardware store run a 1/2-inch pin. That eighth of an inch matters. A too-small pin rides loose in the bracket and wallows out the hole within months. It’s the single most common cause of gate sag we see on residential streets near Woodward Park and Fig Garden.

We are an independent Fresno gate company, not affiliated with Ghost Controls, but we’ve installed and serviced their equipment long enough to know which OEM parts are worth the money and where a quality aftermarket equivalent does the job just as well. For hinges, we generally recommend OEM or an exact-spec aftermarket unit with a sealed bearing. For rollers, a sealed-bearing aftermarket steel wheel rated for at least 400 pounds usually outlasts the original poly wheel in Fresno’s dust and summer heat.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing

  • The gate leans toward the free end when it’s fully open. This means the post hinge pivot pin or bushing has worn enough to let the gate drop at the bearing point. The gate still works, but every cycle is grinding the wear deeper.
  • You hear a creak or groan at the post when the gate moves. That’s metal rubbing on metal inside a hinge that has lost its bushing or grease. The sound often comes and goes with temperature, which is why it’s easy to ignore in Fresno until the heat makes it constant.
  • The gate drags or scrapes at the latch side. Worn hinges let the free end drop, and the gate starts catching on the catch post or the ground. If you see fresh scuff marks on the post or a bare patch in the grass, the geometry has already shifted.
  • The opener motor is noticeably louder or trips its force limit more often. A failing hinge or roller adds friction, and the motor works harder to move the same gate. The limit switch may also land the gate short of full open or closed.
  • The roller wheel wobbles or doesn’t spin when the gate slides. A seized bearing turns your roller into a flat-spot skid pad. The wheel still slides, but it’s grinding a flat spot into the track and fighting the motor on every pass.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the honest price picture for Fresno. A single post hinge replacement runs $140 – $190 installed. A roller replacement typically lands at $120 – $170 per wheel, including the bearing and axle hardware. A full hinge-and-roller refresh on a medium single swing gate runs $240 – $290, which covers the parts, labor, lubrication, and realignment. You’ll see the exact number in writing before we open a single bolt, and that written price includes everything: labor, parts, cleanup, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise. No surprises on the invoice, ever.

The range comes down to access, gate weight, and whether the post has shifted. If the post itself has moved out of plumb, we’ll tell you before we quote the hinge work, because replacing a hinge on a wobbled post fixes nothing. The written quote addresses the actual problem, not just the symptom.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a couple of things worth checking on your own before you pick up the phone. Look at the hinge while the gate is closed and see if the gate is level, or if the gap at the latch side is wider at the top than the bottom. Listen for where the sound is coming from: the post side or the wheel side. That’s useful information for us, and it’s safe to gather. What we don’t recommend is pulling the pins or loosening the hinge bolts on a powered Ghost Controls gate yourself, because the gate carries tension you can’t see at a glance, and a few hundred pounds of steel swinging free can do real damage to you or the track. If the hinge or roller is worn, there’s usually secondary wear at the opener mount or the catch post that needs to be corrected at the same time. Cody Beckman and our crew check that as part of every hinge or roller replacement. Call us at (559) 785-2501 and we’ll walk through what you’re seeing and get it scheduled.
